A Holy Joy
by La Nora Holcombe, Stewardship Ministry Chair
“Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” - 2 Corinthians 8:12
As a busy young mother of four, giving of my time and working full time was difficult. In order to accomplish anything, I had to be disciplined. I prioritized my free time and made sure that nothing interfered with Sunday worship. God blessed me with the ability to teach Sunday School and be a youth leader. We gave not only of our time and gifts, but also of our money. My husband, Scott, and I were disciplined in our giving and made sure that our pledge was a tithe (10%) of our total income.
Faithful stewardship matured us both spiritually. We were nurtured, disciplined and became joyful givers. Our theme for Stewardship this year is: Stewardship: the Muscle of Ministry. In order for St. David’s to have healthy Stewardship, we need to stretch, flex and strengthen our call to giving of our time, gifts and money. Giving out of obedience is a good discipline; but giving because you want to is a holy joy!
Will you let the Lord lead you to the holy joy of giving?
